First Place
Karen Nicholson
That girl from Nantucket could knit.
She made all her outfits by kit.
She had so much Yarn
It would fill up a barn
And her house had no place she could sit.
Second Place
Beverly Carmichael
There once was a cranky old knitter,
Who could never make anything fit her.
I’m making a top
And I will not stop.
Because no one respects a quitter!
Third place
Georgia Lupica
There once was a woman named Purl
Who was quite a remarkable girl.
She always did knit
While doing a split.
Just the thought makes me want to hurl!
Honorable Mentions
Mary Brooks
There was a middle age lady from Harwich
Who needed to know how to knit-stitch.
Though she couldn’t see well
No one could tell
As she formed a fun group called Knit-Lit(ch)
Karen Olivier
There once was a woman who knit
It was her new way to stay fit
Yarn and needles galore
Covid burnout no more
Her Afghans and socks a big hit!
Susan Bartels
I really do love to knit
At times I just want to quit
The rhythm is relaxing
But sometimes it’s taxing
Fingers crossed my sweater will fit!
Donna Zmijewski
“Off to the yarn store” I said
Luscious yarns danced in my head
For an afghan, a sweater, a shawl
I plan to make them all
But I’ll be knitting till after I’m dead!
Connie Harada
THERE ONCE WAS A LADY FROM HARWICH
WHO KNITTED WHEN EATING A SANDWICH
WHILE FILLING HER TUMMY
THE SCARF BECAME CRUMBY
SO SHE THREW THE WHOLE MESS IN THE GARBAGE
Gloria Dossena
Mittens and scarves, a sweater or vest
A blanket to snuggle when you curl up to rest
A Grandma who can knit
All these goodies that fit
Is a gift from above, at best!
Sandy Sheppard
There once was a person who knit(ted)
Despite being duly committed
For DPN shish kabob and yarn bomb explosions
The jury said “never acquitted.”
Just for Fun (Not Judged)
Karen Nicholson
On Nantucket there once was a girl
Who loved yarn-overs, cables and purl.
She bought colors galore
From the local yarn store
And knit up a shawl with a swirl.
Georgia Lupica
There once was a woman who knit
With yarn; she used every bit.
She always checked gauge.
It was all the rage.
The result? Her sweaters all fit!
Connie Harada
FOR A BABY SO SWEET AND SO CLEAN
KNIT A SWEATER OF YELLOW AND GREEN
BUT MY FINGERS WERE SLOW
SO THE WORK DID NOT GROW
OOPS, THE CHILD IS NOW SEVENTEEN
Ernesto 'Tito' Irrizarry
There was once a woman who knit(ted)
A snug mask for her face that was fitted;
She made it her mission to knit with the vision
That Covid would never be transmitted.
